March Cookie Countess Cutter Club

Garden Easter Set
Welcome to the March Cutter Club subscription box! If it is your first month - welcome! If you are a returning Cutter Club member - thanks for coming back!!
With Easter coming up, I of course wanted to give you something to make for such a big cookie holiday. But I also wanted to give you a different twist on the traditional pink bunnies and yellow chicks. I wanted to create a set that felt on trend - hello bows! And I am picturing having a tea party in a Easter themed topiary garden. Topiaries are such a pretty and unique style of gardening. I also wanted to give you some cutters that don't have to be used just for Easter. These cookies feel fun, springy, and girlie all at the same time. While still giving you Easter sentiments.
Topiaries are such a pretty and unique style of gardening. There is a place in Rhode Island (where I am from) called Green Animals that is all about giant topiary animals and this set reminds me of it. Check it out if you are curious!

March is our 6th month of the Cutter Club, and I am finding that I really do want to give you some cutters that can be multifunctional. So I will continue to point out how you may use cutters from each theme, for other themes and designs. I do this with the hope that you will feel you are getting even more value from your subscription, and not use the cutters once and then store them away. Cookie "flips" can add so much value to your cookie cutter collection!
From this set the "Easter" cookie with bow can be used in SO many way! Just pipe whatever message you want in the open space; or maybe the recipients name. The large bow can be added to any girlie or delicate set, as can the teapot with flowers. These would be great for Mother's Day as well! And even though I am going to show you how to make a topiary bunny, you can go traditional with this bunny cutter as well, simply piping the bunny in white or whatever color you'd like.
Be sure to check out the downloads available below for the cookie cutters graphics. You can use these for your projector if you have one, or as transfers or to trace.
I hope you have fun creating this set of cookies! I would love to see pics of what make! You can add a pic and a review on the cutter club product page.
And thanks for being a part of the Cutter Club!

I made a piping consistency and flood consistency for the blue, green and white. For the pink you will need just a stiff consistency for the ribbon bows and flowers. Please watch this tutorial on the correct consistency and technique for these super cute bows.
If you are comfortable cutting and piping/flooding with tipless bags, go for it! If you prefer tips I would recommend a #1 or #1.5 tip for details and outlines , and a #2 or 2.5 for flooding. You WILL need a rose 101 tip to make the ribbon bows. If you don't have one, we of course sell them. You can also pipe and flood more traditional style bows, but I hope you'll give these ribbon bows a try! They may look intimidating, but they are actually super easy with a little practice.
Below you will find step by step instructions for our first 3 cookies. Followed by videos for the 4th and 5th. You are getting a bonus video this month! This is of course only if you want to replicate these cookies exactly. Feel free to have fun! Use different colors, or different techniques. Let your creativity shine if you want!
Let's get started!
Before you begin decorating your cookies, there is a little prep work. But this will make the decorating go very fast once you get started.
First off you will need to prep for your topiary bunny and egg in planter cookies, and Easter lettering, by making some "moss". Bake an extra cookie or 2 depending on how many cookies you will be decorating in total. I made one extra 4" cookie and had way more than enough "moss" for the 6 cookie I used it on.
1) Break up your cookie into smaller pieces and place in a ziploc bag. 2) Use something heavy to pound and crush the cookie into fine crumbs. 3) Add some green gel color into the bag, reseal, and then begin to massage the bag and work the color through the crumbs. Keep adding gel color, a little bit at a time and repeat the process. You can also add a few drops of water into the bag, this will really help disperse the color. 4) Once your crumbs are the desired color, lay them out on a plate or piece of parchment to let any moisture dry out.
You can also check out this blog tutorial that has a video about the moss.

You will also want to make the Easter letters ahead of time as royal icing transfers - IF you want to go this route. If you have a projector, or trust yourself to just pipe directly on the cookie you can do that too! You also don't need to make these "moss" letters. You can just pipe them with green icing. The choice is yours!

If you find that there are too many cookie crumbs between the small spaces of the letters, just use a brush to gently brush them away. The transfer sheet for these letters is part of the downloads at the bottom of this post. Be sure to pipe within the boundaries of the letters, and not the outside of the letters, so that they will fit on your cookie.
Now let's decorate some cookies!
1. Bow Plaque
If you haven't already, be sure to check out this blog on how to make ribbon bows.

2. Bunny With Bow

3. Egg Topiary

4. Lace Bow
I love this sweet bow cookie so much! For the lace edges I am going to show you how to do a "brush embroidery" technique. Use your piping icing and work in sections with a small food safe brush.
5. Teapot With Flowers

For the second, and full video tutorial this month, we'll be making the teapot with flowers. I liked this cookie design because not only can use it for this garden Easter theme, but also Mother's Day, or any teatime set. The wet-on-wet technique is easy to do. You can practice a little before you start on some parchment, by just flooding out a small circle of white and then practice the rosebud. It's important when doing any we-on-wet design that all colors used be flood consistency.
While I was working on this set, I also made a cookie using the same colors and made a moss covered bunny transfer on a plaque cookie cutter for another blog tutorial. I included that transfer sheet in your downloads in case you want to replicate this cookie as well to go with your set!

Once again, thank you so much for being part of our Cutter Club! I hope you have as much fun making these Garden Easter cookies as I did! I will link all the products I used in this set below, in case you find you need to do some shopping.
This month's coupon is 15% off piping bags and tips!
If you have any questions or comments you can feel free to leave them below. I would love to hear what you think of this month's box!
