July Cutter Club - Back to School

School’s in Session!
Nothing says "school's back in session!" quite like a fresh set of decorated sugar cookies — and this set is full of charm, color, and just the right amount of school spirit! Whether you're packing a lunchbox surprise, gifting a teacher, or just looking for a fun way to kick off the new school year, these cookies are a perfect A+ treat.

Let’s walk through the sweet little details of this back-to-school cookie set and how I brought each design to life using playful colors and icing magic!
When choosing the colors for this set, I wanted a palette that felt bright, cheerful, and instantly recognizable as "back to school" — and I think this combo nails it! The red, yellow, green, teal, and light beige work beautifully together, giving the set a playful, cohesive feel without being too loud or overwhelming. Red and yellow bring that classic school-day energy (think apples and pencils!), while the green and teal add a fun, modern twist. The light beige softens everything just enough and adds a neutral balance that ties the whole set together. Each color complements the others, and together, they perfectly capture the spirit of a fresh new school year.

I used hybrid consistency for nearly everything to keep the decorating process smooth and efficient. Using just one bag for both the outlining and flooding of the cookies. The only exception? Those adorable bushes, where I brought out a stiff consistency green to give the School cookies some texture and dimension using Ateco #21 star pipping tip.
For a better understanding of icing consistencies refer to this blog here. We also have a very thorough online class here.
If you are comfortable cutting and piping/flooding with tipless bags, go for it! If you prefer tips I would recommend a #1 or #1.5 tip for details and outlines , and a #2 or 2.5 for flooding.
I used this beige marker for sketching out the sections and designs of the cookies. This is very helpful to keep everything straight and spatially correct. You can always use a mini projector to do this as well.
Below you will find step by step instructions for all the cookies. Followed by a video for 3 of the cookies: the pencil bow, lunchbox, and school house! 2 extra this month! Feel free to have fun! Use different colors, or different techniques. Let your creativity shine if you want!
