August Cutter Club - Enchanted Creatures
Enchanted Creatures: A Magical Take on Halloween Cookie Decorating
Halloween doesn’t have to be all orange and black — this year, we’re diving into a softer, more mysterious color palette and a set of cookie designs that feels straight out of a witch’s favorite storybook. Our Enchanted Creatures set features five bewitching animals — each one a faithful magical companion — captured in charming cookie form.
The Enchanted Creatures Cutter Club set is the perfect marriage of Halloween mystery and cozy cottagecore magic. The soft color palette makes it unique among Halloween cookie sets, while the character-inspired designs give each cookie a little story of its own.
For this set, I wanted to create a look that felt undeniably magical but softer than the usual orange-and-black Halloween. I leaned into dusty pink, smoke gray, grape, light lavender, and deep black — a palette that feels like moonlight on velvet. Dusty Pink softens the darker elements and adds a romantic, storybook touch. Smoke Gray provides a grounding neutral that works for cauldrons, skulls, and shadows. Grape brings richness and depth without overpowering. Light Lavender introduces a dreamy, mystical element. Deep Black anchors the whole set and ensures it still reads as Halloween.
The magic of this combination is that it’s both spooky and elegant. Instead of jumping out at you like a haunted house, it draws you in like an old spellbook — perfect for a whimsical witchy theme.
One of the keys to bringing the Enchanted Creatures set to life is using the right royal icing consistency for the job. For this collection, I worked with two different consistencies to get both crisp details and smooth finishes.
Stiff Consistency for Dimensional Details
For the raven’s feathers, I used stiff consistency icing paired with a 101 Ateco petal tip and a brush. This allowed me to pipe individual feathers that held their shape and gave the raven texture and movement. The stiffer icing ensured the petal shape didn’t sink into each other and created that layered, lifelike effect that makes the bird stand out.
Hybrid Consistency for Outlining & Flooding
For the rest of the designs, I went with a hybrid consistency — slightly thicker than a traditional flood but softer than stiff. This is my go-to for outlining and filling in the same step without needing two separate consistencies. It gives clean edges, a smooth surface, and just enough control to prevent icing from running over the sides, especially on small or intricate shapes like potion bottles and book spines.
For a better understanding of icing consistencies refer to this blog here. We also have a very thorough online class here.
If you are comfortable cutting and piping/flooding with tipless bags, go for it! If you prefer tips I would recommend a #1 or #1.5 tip for details and outlines , and a #2 or 2.5 for flooding.
I used this beige marker for sketching out the sections and designs of the cookies. This is very helpful to keep everything straight and spatially correct. You can always use a mini projector to do this as well.
Below you will find step by step instructions for all the cookies. Followed by 2 videos. One for the Raven’s cookie and another one that includes various techniques used on the other 4 cookies. Feel free to have fun! Use different colors, or different techniques. Let your creativity shine if you want!
Now let's decorate some cookies!
1. Bat on Cauldron
2. Cat on Books
3. Owl with Poison Bottle
4. Rat with Candle
5. Raven on Skull
And just like that Cookies are Class ready!
And just like that, your Enchanted Creatures have fluttered, prowled, scurried, and swooped their way into delicious reality. You’ve piped, flooded, and feathered your way through a cookie coven worthy of any witch’s midnight tea party.
Remember, these aren’t just cookies — they’re edible little talismans of whimsy. Each bite is like casting a miniature spell… although, fair warning, the only thing they’re guaranteed to conjure is more cookie cravings.
So whether you’re serving them at a Halloween soirée, gifting them to your favorite ghoul-friends, or hoarding them for your own personal potion-fueled Netflix marathon, one thing’s for sure: you’ve just baked up a batch of magic.
Now go forth, cookie witch — your familiars await.
I would love to hear what you think of this set and see your cookies! You can post a pic and leave a review on the product page. It makes me so happy to see your cookies when they are completed!!
Happy Baking!
