May Cutter Club - Vintage Surfer Set

Lets go surfing!

Have you ever been surfing? I have once. And there's a good reason it was only once, lol. But that doesn't mean we can't live vicariously through some surfing cookies! I wanted to give this set a vintage vibe - think 70's surfer movie - through the color choices, and style of car. But you could easily change up the colors, and car designs, to make it look more modern if you want! I hope you have fun making this set of cookies!

This set has a fair amount of steps, because it has a lot of sectioning. You'll notice not a single cookie has a simple flooded base. But don't let scare you! Just plan out your sections and move back and forth between your cookies, as you let each section crust. If you put your cookies in front of a fan , or in a dehydrator, this will help speed up the process.

If you are looking for other ways to use these cutters... the bathing suit could be a baby onesie, or lingerie. The car could be carrying skis at winter. The lifeguard house could be a lake house, or tiki hut. And the wave could be a great number 2!

To achieve the vintage vibe on these colors, I added a tiny bit of brown to the yellow and orange.

I made a piping and flood consistency for all the colors except black (15 second for that one). Because of all the sectioning on these cookies it will be important to have a true piping consistency to do all your outlines. And you will want to use a stiffer flood consistency than usual, this will help prevent cratering. And give a better puffy look on the sections. It will also be important for the ocean wave and water sections to have a stiffer flood.  If you a beginner and are still learning consistencies, we have a helpful blog here. We also have a very thorough online class here

If you are comfortable cutting and piping/flooding with tipless bags, go for it! If you prefer tips I would recommend a #1 or #1.5 tip for details and outlines , and a #2 or 2.5 for flooding. I used this marker for sketching out the sections of the car and lifeguard house. This is very helpful to keep everything straight and spatially correct.

Below you will find step by step instructions for 3 cookies. Followed one video for the rest. I'm using a slightly different format for the video this time around, where I am showing different parts of the cookies instead of just one cookie start to finish.  This is of course only if you want to replicate these cookies exactly. Feel free to have fun! Use different colors, or different techniques. Let your creativity shine if you want!

Now let's decorate some cookies!

1.Woody Car With Surfboard

2.Swimsuit

3.Lifeguard Tower

Surfboard on the beach, Wave and more...

Instead of just doing one cookie start to finish, this time I'm showing different parts of a few of the cookies and talking through the others. Let me know if you like this format! For the "sand" you will use cookie crumbs. I'm linking the cookie "moss" blog here, even though I did it a little differently in this video.

I hope you love making this set as much as I did! Click the button below to download a PDF of all the cutter designs. Remember to print at 100% for accurate sizing - don't let your printer adjust the scale. Sometimes it's sneaky that way ;)

I would love to hear what you think of this set and see your cookies! You can post a pic and leave a review on the product page. It makes me so happy to see your cookies when they are completed!!

Happy Baking!
